JT Documents - Embed 3D JT Files into a Microsoft Office Document

New!   Web Page Support for JT2Go

JT2Go provides unique functionality for embedding JT viewing windows directly in Microsoft Office documents. These JT Documents extend the value of JT and the power of 3D viewing to everyone using standard desktop applications.

There are 2 ways to create JT Documents in Microsoft Office 2003.

1. Standard Insert method (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  1. From the Insert menu click Object.
  2. Select Create from File and Browse for a monolithic JT file (single JT file that includes the component parts).
  3. The JT file will be embedded in the document and a thumbnail screenshot will be inserted.
  4. You can resize or move this window as required.
  5. Double-click on the image to open the embedded JT2Go viewer. Click off of the image to exit the viewer. The orientation of the model when you exit the viewer will become the new thumbnail image.
  6. To setup the 3D model for viewing in PowerPoint presentation mode, simply right-click on the image, click the Action Settings button, click on the Object Actions tab, and select Edit.
  7. Simply click on the image during a PowerPoint presentation to display it.
Note: You may need to hold down the left mouse button to activate the viewer in Show mode.
Note: The image will not be updated after you exit the 3D viewing mode during a presentation.

Note: Only "monolithic" JT files (single JT file including parts and product structure) can be embedded in the JT Document. Shattered files (top level JT files that reference sub-assy and component JT files) and PLM XML files cannot be embedded in the JT Document. For "shattered" JT files and PLM XML files, the JT Document includes a link to the file on the file system and must be sent along with the JT document.

2. Drag & Drop method (Word & PowerPoint only)

  1. Open or create a Microsoft Word or PowerPoint file.
  2. Drag a JT file from your Desktop of Microsoft Windows Explorer window.
  3. Drop the JT file and a JT file will be embedded in the document with a thumbnail screenshot inserted at the drop point.
  4. Repeat steps 4-7 above to display the 3D model during a PowerPoint presentation.
