What is PLM XML? How is it used by JT2Go?

PLM XML is an open format created by Siemens PLM Software to facilitate product lifecycle interoperability by sharing high-content product data between PLM applications. PLM XML is defined by W3C XML schemas freely available from www.plmxml.org.

JT2Go can display PLM XML files create from Teamcenter two ways:

  1. A PLM XML file saved from Teamcenter with product structure can be loaded the same as a JT file directly from the disk and displayed. A PLM XML example of this type is available from the Downloads page. This process allows users to define an arrangement of JT content and save it as PLM XML for display.
  2. A PLM XML file saved from Teamcenter without product structure can be merged into a JT2Go session that has an existing JT assembly already loaded and displayed. The merge capability allows JT arrangements to be applied to an existing session to communicate multiple arrangements of data for a pre-loaded JT file.

How is JT2Go different than XpresReview?

JT2Go is specifically designed for viewing JT files with the added value of viewing CGM and TIF. XpresReview is an electronic design review solution that allows you to easily share multiple documents in a collaborative environment. Supported by NX and Solid Edge, XpresReview uses the PCF file format to easily combine 3D models and other associated documents into a single package, so participants in your review process have all the information they need to communicate effectively. XpresReview supports JT files but JT2Go does not read PCF files.

Can JT2Go read markups created by someone else?

No. JT2Go does not support markups. Learn more about Teamcenter for lifecycle visualization.

Can I insert JT files into Microsoft Office documents using JT2Go?

Yes, as of the 5.1.0.3a version of JT2Go anyone with JT2Go and Microsoft Office can create JT Documents.

There is a ~ next to the measurements I take. What does this mean?

The tilde character (~) indicates that the measurement is an approximation from the facet data. Support for precise measurement of the B-REP data is available in our Teamcenter Lifecycle Visualization Base, Standard, Professional and Mockup products.

Can I control how assemblies are displayed when loaded into JT2Go?

Yes. The default viewing for assemblies in JT2Go is "All On". This prevents the user experience of a blank display when loading a JT assembly and the need to check the box next to the assembly name in the product structure browser for display. It is possible to turn off the display of geometry when loading assemblies through the environment variable JT2GO_SHOWALL_OFF=True/False. A value of True will result in no geometry being loaded when a JT assembly is retrieved using JT2Go.

How will I get updates for JT2Go?

You should register for JT2Go. Once you have registered for JT2Go, Siemens PLM Software will send you email messages to notify you of updates to the software. We will not use your email address for excessive marketing or sell it to anyone else. You can then visit the download site and obtain the updated product.

You can also check for updates from within the JT2Go software by clicking on the new "Check for JT2Go Updates" button.

How can I create JT files of my own?

JT files can be exported from all major CAD systems and translators are available from Siemens PLM Software and 3rd party developers (visit JT Open Member Products for more information). JT is a standard output format for Siemens PLM Software's CAD products Solid Edge and NX and can be automatically created whenever you save a file or even check a file into Teamcenter. See your Siemens PLM Software sales representative or call 800-498 5351 to learn how to purchase JT translators products.

I cannot drag a JT file into an Excel spreadsheet? Why not?

Drag & drop is not supported for Excel. See the JT Document Plug-in page for instructions.

Can you add a JT2Go window into a web page?

Yes, JT2Go can be added to a webpage as an HTML OBJECT. Embedding Jt2Go in HTML is actually quite simple.

A small Javascript function is required to call an HTML object which references the registry entry for JT2Go.

The JavaScript function calls the object which you name with the ID attribute in the object. Below is an example.

function DoOpen(urltoload)
{
            viewer3dCtl.Open(urltoload);
}
Define the object in HTML using the attributes which define how to access JT2Go.
<OBJECT>
/* create the object that will be used to display the JT2Go viewer */
/* set up a name to reference the object within the page */
ID="viewer3dCtl"
/* this is the unique identifier written into the registry when JT2Go in installed */
CLASSID="clsid:AD0DEF5C-DEC1-4950-AC57-1533F90C6BAD"
/* display characteristics */
ALIGN="CENTER" BORDER=0 WIDTH=650 HEIGHT=420
/* define the type of application that will launch with this object */
TYPE="application/oleobject">
</OBJECT>

Be sure to download the latest build of JT2Go as it has improvements to security settings which make embedded viewing possible with default security settings. Use JT2Go build 6.1.61708 or any build after.

This capability is only available when using Internet Explorer.

You can view this in a production deployment at http://www.jtopen.com/technology/showcase.shtml

Note: JT2Go does not support viewing JT files managed by Teamcenter. For more information about viewing managed JT files visit Teamcenter Visualization.

I embedded a JT file in PowerPoint and it does not activate when I am in presentation mode, what's wrong?

To enable JT activation of JT2go while in presentation mode you must change the setting for the action on the embedded image. To do this "right click" with your mouse in the embedded image, from the dialog select "Action Settings …," from the Action Settings dialog set the "Object Action" to "Edit".

The image below displays these actions.

The headline of the JT2Go window has "90 Days Remaining" in it. What does this mean?

If your version of JT2Go displays this message you should download the latest release and re-install JT2Go. JT2Go no longer displays this dialog.

When we embed JT files into MS Office documents we see a UGS logo. How can we turn off this logo?

If your version of JT2Go still displays a UGS logo you should download the latest release and re-install JT2Go. JT2Go no longer displays a logo after install.

After we updated our Teamcenter Visualization software to 2005 SR1, our JT2Go stopped working.

If you installed the "Miscellaneous Product Features" and/or the "Office Integration" option of Teamcenter for lifecycle visualization 2005 SR1, you installed a new version of JT2Go that enables the JT Document capabilities (embed JT files in MS Office documents). You should re-install JT2Go with the latest available download.
